RHEA — the Rhino Heritage and Education Alliance — was established in 2025 to protect Africa’s extraordinary natural heritage by bringing wildlife conservation and education together.

The foundation supports anti-poaching initiatives that safeguard rhinos and other threatened species while creating educational opportunities for disadvantaged communities in Southern Africa, particularly in Namibia and South Africa. Through support for schools, academic and vocational education, and scholarships, RHEA seeks to give young people the knowledge and opportunities to shape their own futures.

Our aim is to make a tangible difference – helping endangered species survive and enabling communities to create better futures through education.

The rhino is one of the most iconic animals on the African continent—and one of the most critically endangered. Poaching and the loss of natural habitats are pushing this fascinating species to the brink of extinction.

RHEA is actively committed to protecting rhinos. We support local initiatives and projects that provide safe reserves for these animals, assist anti-poaching units, and ensure the conservation of this species for future generations.

Education is the key to a self-determined future and a strong society. The second cause close to our alliance’s heart is the promotion of educational initiatives on the African continent.

We support infrastructure development, access to educational materials, and targeted educational projects. Our goal is to equip young people with the tools they need to reach their full potential and strengthen their communities in a sustainable way.

RHEA is not backed by anonymous investors; instead, the Schmitz family leads the foundation as a collective board with personal passion and conviction.

What began as a family connection to Africa is now a state-recognized foundation based in North Rhine-Westphalia. Together, we use our resources, our network, and our knowledge to make a real difference where it counts.
